Milwaukee, Wisconsin May 18, 2017 — HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has won two design awards for ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center.

The Cancer Center won First Place for Healthcare (over 15,000 SF) in the IIDA Wisconsin Celebrate in Design program, and a Merit Award in the AIA Wisconsin 2017 Design Awards program.

The award jurors praised the Cancer Center for its integrated design solutions combining landscaping, inviting architectural forms, sustainable materials, and high-tech clinical spaces.

Connected to an existing ambulatory care center on a 53-acre landscaped campus outside Appleton, Wisconsin, the 84,000 square-foot Cancer Center includes comprehensive diagnostic, treatment and infusion services, as well as behavioral health, nutrition, physical therapy, acupuncture, yoga, and music therapy. Exterior stonework, wood panels and warm earth tones carry into the interior, where large windows, abundant natural light, access to nature, comfortable waiting areas and clear signage create an approachable and soothing setting for patients.75f624d7-530b-480d-a8ad-efea04844a07_orig.jpg

“The state-of-the-art facility elevates cancer care in central Wisconsin while balancing patients’ emotional and personal wellbeing,” said Kurt Spiering, FAIA, ACHA, Vice President and Healthcare Principal with HGA. “The design reflects a holistic approach to cancer care—a clinical and emotion-centered approach—that celebrates life and hope.”

Spiering will feature ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center in a seminar, Planning Holistic Cancer Centers that Embrace Mind, Body, Spirit, at Healthcare Facilities Symposium and Expo, September 20.
